Vaccaro Wines
Throught the generations the Vaccaro Family have kept the Italian wine culture at heart with great loyalty and respect to tradition and Mother Nature.
Vaccaro Wines was founded in 1970 by Giacomo Vaccaro and is located in the middle of Belice’s Valley. This velley is not far away from the beautiful Selinunte, in the small town of Salaparuta.
The town was hit by an earthquake in 1968. Salaparuta takes its name from the “Paruta” family. But this was not because they were the founders of the town but because in 1507 they were able to add their family name “Paruta” to the primitive town’s name – Sala.
Since ancient times the area was occupied by different civilizations such as the Phoenicians, Greeks, and Romans, leaving a wealth of heritage and folklore. For example, vineyards were born thanks to the Greeks who imported new vines to Sicily.
Hence it was more than appropriate that such a winery could be set up in such a milieu – a spectacular environment among green hills full of vineyards blown by mythological winds like Scirocco, Maestrale, Ponente and Libeccio.
History
This is the vine kingdom enjoying the best climate and ecological conditions. In the golden grapes, kissed by the sun and caressed by the fresh wind, it is obvious to produce the noblest of quality wines.
From the founding of the winery, the owners always had a clear idea and understanding that such favourable and natural conditions are important but sometimes could not just be enough.
Whith particular attention, respecting ancient traditions and with constant research, the winery has selected different techniques which allow it to produce such excellent wine.
The passion for its land, the respect for the environment, and constant technologic advancement has brought Vaccaro Wines excellent results with huge success in national and international markets.
Vineyards
The 150 hectares of agricultural land, exposed in the North West, are situated in the hills close to Salaparuta from a height of 250/350 mt above sea level.
Most of the vines were planted in 1985. The grape variety cultivated today are:
WHITE: Chardonnay, Grecanico, Catarratto, Inzolia and Grillo.
BLACK: Nero D’avola, Merlot, Cabernet, Syrah, and Sangiovese. The land does not contain much limestone and the microclima is influnced by the Belice’s River which makes the temperatures low and allow a slow and perfect grape maturation.
Cellar
For technical and methodological reasons, the celler is located in the middle of the vineyard, in perfect harmony with Mother Nature.
The passion for the land, the respect to the environment, and constant technologic advancement has brought Vaccaro Wines excellent results.
Vaccaro Wines apply programmatic research and constant updated techniques to ensure safe wine production.
